RESUMEN

Duodenogastric reflux (DGR) has been linked to the onset of gastric cancer (GC), although the precise mechanism is yet obscure. Herein, we aimed to investigate how refluxed bile acids (BAs) and macrophages are involved in gastric carcinogenesis. In both active human bile reflux gastritis and the murine DGR model, ubiquitin specific protease 50 (USP50) was dramatically raised, and macrophages were the principal leukocyte subset that upregulated USP50 expression. Enhancing USP50 expression amplified bile acid-induced NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation and subsequent high-mobility group box protein 1 (HMGB1) release, while USP50 deficiency resulted in the reversed alteration. Mechanistically, USP50 interacted with and deubiquitinated apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing CARD (ASC) to activate NLRP3 inflammasome. The release of HMGB1 contributes to gastric tumorigenesis by PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK pathways. These results may provide new insights into bile reflux-related gastric carcinogenesis and options for the prevention of DGR-associated GC.

The growing epidemic of obesity and the increase in weight loss surgery has led to a resurgence of interest in biliary reflux because anatomical alterations may be refluxogenic. HIDA scan is the least invasive scan with good patient tolerability, sensitivity and reproducibility for the diagnosis of biliary reflux. Patients with more advanced oesophageal lesions have a higher degree of duodenal reflux. It has been shown in animal models and in vitro that there is more Barrett's and dysplasia with duodenal reflux. There are two cases of post-OAGB malignancy reported in 20 years, both without correlation with a biliary aetiology, so the carcinogenic risk probably remains theoretical. Prospective trials on OAGB should include endoscopy preoperatively and at 5-year intervals, to have data on the real effects of bile exposure on the gastric reservoir and oesophagus.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: We examined the contributions of gastric emptying and duodenogastric bile reflux in the formation of gastric antral ulcers induced by NSAIDs in mice. METHODS: We used the murine re-fed indomethacin (IND) experimental ulcer model. Outcome measures included the appearance of gastric lesions 24 h after IND treatment and the assessment of gastric contents and the concentration of bile acids 1.5 h after re-feeding. The effects of atropine, dopamine, SR57227 (5-HT3 receptor agonist), apomorphine, ondansetron, haloperidol, and dietary taurocholate and cholestyramine were also examined. RESULTS: IND (10 mg/kg, s.c.) induced severe lesions only in the gastric antrum in the re-fed model. The antral lesion index and the amount of food intake during the 2-h refeeding period were positively correlated. Atropine and dopamine delayed gastric emptying, increased bile reflux, and worsened IND-induced antral lesions. SR57227 and apomorphine worsened antral lesions with increased bile reflux. These effects were prevented by the anti-emetic drugs ondansetron and haloperidol, respectively. The anti-emetic drugs markedly decreased the severity of antral lesions and the increase of bile reflux induced by atropine or dopamine without affecting delayed gastric emptying. Antral lesions induced by IND were increased by dietary taurocholate but decreased by the addition of the bile acid sequestrant cholestyramine. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that gastroparesis induced by atropine or dopamine worsens NSAID-induced gastric antral ulcers by increasing duodenogastric bile reflux via activation of 5-HT3 and dopamine D2 receptors.

Bile reflux or duodenogastric reflux (DGR), refers to the retrograde flow of duodenal contents (mainly bile) into the stomach; capable of producing chemical damage to the mucosa, and triggering mutations towards the development of intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia and even gastric cancer. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of primary bile reflux in cholecystectomized patients and to identify whether cholecystectomy is a risk factor for development of DGR. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An analytical cross-sectional and observational study was conducted, in which all patients who underwent upper digestive endoscopy from February to June 2023 in a private endoscopic center in Lima, Peru, were included. According to the endoscopic report, patients were divided into two groups as those with DGR and those without DGR. Demographic characteristics, history of cholecystectomy, and endoscopic findings were statistically analyzed. 408 patients were included. RESULTS: The mean age of the population was 48.18 ± 16.82 years; 61.52% were female. The prevalence of DGR was 25.74% in the population, while in cholecystectomized patients it was 52.11%. The prevalence of DRG in patients with a history of cholecystectomy was 2.58 times compared to patients without cholecystectomy (p<0.001). Age ≥50 years also behaved as a risk factor for RDG (p=0.025). No significant difference in diabetes, Helicobacter pylori infection or smoking were found. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, a history of cholecystectomy as well as age were found to be risk factors for development of primary DGR.

BACKGROUND: Studies indicate sleeve gastrectomy (SG) as a factor of aggravation or even emergence of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Accelerated gastric emptying is described as a mitigating factor. SG may be potentiated by adding a pyloroplasty, although with the potential risk of resulting in duodenogastric alkaline reflux. The objective was to standardize sleeve gastrectomy with pyloroplasty in rats, analyze the complementation in terms of mortality and weight evolution, and conduct assessments on gastric emptying, intestinal transit, and genesis of possible duodenogastric reflux. METHODS: Ninety-three male Wistar rats were divided into a pilot study (standardization of the surgical technique and the scintigraphic study), and the main study. They were then subdivided into the SHAM group, the sleeve gastrectomy (SG) group, and the sleeve gastrectomy with pyloroplasty (SGP) group. After 3 months, the animals were submitted to two scintigraphic experiments and histological analysis of gastric biopsies. RESULTS: The surgical groups (SG and SGP) lost initially more weight than the SHAM group, and the gastric emptying and intestinal transit in the first were more accelerated. However, no difference was found between the SG and SGP groups. Scintigraphic and histological analyses did not reveal statistical differences among the SG and SGP groups regarding gastroesophageal and duodenogastric refluxes. CONCLUSIONS: Pyloroplasty did not affect weight reduction or increase duodenogastric reflux, after three postoperative months in this animal model of sleeve gastrectomy.

BACKGROUND: Most studies of the relationship between duodenogastric reflux (DGR) and Helicobacter pylori have reported that the presence of DGR decreases H. pylori colonization, while H. pylori infection increases the frequency of DGR by impairing antroduodenal motility. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between primary DGR and the prevalence of H. pylori in children, as well as the degree of colonization and the presence and severity of gastritis. METHODS: Included in the study were 410 patients between the ages of 2 and 18 years, referred to the pediatric gastroenterology clinic with complaints of dyspepsia, abdominal pain, and nausea/vomiting, who underwent upper gastrointestinal system endoscopic examination and stomach biopsy. The study group included 60 patients with DGR, while 350 non-DGR patients formed the control group. RESULTS: The mean age of patients with DGR was 15.7 ± 2.1 years, while the mean age of the control group was 14.2 ± 3.8 years (p = 0.02). Of those with DGR, 50 (83.3%) were girls, while in the control group, 215 (61.4%) were girls (p = 0.001). Of patients with DGR, 16 were H. pylori (+) (26.7%), while in the control group, 168 were H. pylori (+) (48%) (p = 0.002). There was no significant difference between the 2 groups with respect to H. pylori degree of colonization (p = 0.08). Gastritis was present in 56 (93.3%) patients in the DGR group and 322 (92%) patients in the control group (p = 0.72). A significant difference was found between the 2 groups in terms of gastritis severity (p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The mean age of patients with DGR was significantly higher than that of patients without DGR, and DGR was found to be more common in girls. In patients with DGR, H. pylori prevalence was significantly lower than in those without DGR; however, no significant difference was found between the 2 groups with respect to the colonization degree.

Background:An abnormality that causes reflux is termed as Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is symptomatic by nature and adds to the long-term effects.Objective:The aim of this study is to observe and monitor the effects of a herbal ttratment of GERD with SiniZuojin Decoction (SNZID)and to assess its mediation impacts regarding the use of the medication in patients with Gastrointestinal EBB ailment.Materials and Methods:The cohort research methodology was used inthe study.The research included 2581 individual patients who were older than 18 years of age and were suffering from Gastrointestinal ebbailment. The patients were selected from various government herbal clinics in eastern China, including the states of Anhui, Fujian, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong, and Zhejiangover, from 2008 to 2018. Results:The study was conducted with a total of 2581 patients. The thorough assessment indicated that Sini Zuojin Decoction (SZD)notwithstanding standard stomach remedies pack was more effective than the traditionalist stomach suppositories bundle (RR=1.34, with CI=95% [1.47, 1.38], and P-value = 0.008); Test packs including SZD was essentially better contrasted with traditional stomach medicines(TSM)gearshifts in developing dyspepsia, substernal chest plague, decreasing regurgitation, and vomiting (P < 0.0002); SNZJD plus traditional stomach medicines(SPTSM)could by and large lessen full-scale sign scores with liberal ampleness (P < 0.00002). BACKGROUND: The prevalence of duodenogastroesophageal reflux (DGER) and its effect on symptoms and oesophageal lesions in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is unclear. AIMS: To conduct a systematic review to determine the prevalence of DGER among patients with GERD, the effect of DGER on symptoms and oesophageal lesions, and the treatment of DGER. METHODS: We searched Pubmed and MEDLINE for full text, English language articles until October 2020 that evaluated DGER prevalence among patients with GERD, the effect of DGER on symptoms and oesophageal lesions, and the treatment of DGER. RESULTS: We identified 3891 reports and included 35 which analysed DGER prevalence in GERD, 15 which evaluated its effect in non-erosive reflux disease (NERD), 17 on erosive oesophagitis, 23 in Barrett's, and 13 which evaluated the treatment of DGER. The prevalence of DGER, when evaluated by Bilitec, among all GERD patients ranged from 10% to 97%, in NERD 10%-63%, in erosive oesophagitis 22%-80% and in Barrett's 50%-100%. There were no differences in the presence or degree of DGER among patients who were asymptomatic or symptomatic on proton pump inhibitors (PPI). The most commonly evaluated treatments for DGER were PPIs and DGER reduced post-PPI therapy in all studies. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of DGER increased with more advanced oesophageal lesions and did not explain persisting symptoms among patients taking PPI therapy. PPIs appear to be effective in the treatment of DGER. DGER remains an important consideration in patients with GERD and future therapies deserve more study.

A theoretical model of the pyloric channel, approximated as a two-dimensional tube with sinusoidal corrugation, is developed to estimate the degree of resistance offered by the pylorus to transpyloric flow (gastric emptying and duodenogastric reflux) in the viscous regime. Study indicates that the resistance of the channel depends on pressure gradient, flow behavior index and channel diameter. Flow is majorly determined by the extent of luminal opening; since they scale to fourth power of the diameter for Newtonian flow, with the exponent being higher for pseudoplastic and lesser in case of dilatants relative to Newtonian fluid. At zero pressure difference, across the channel, the closing pylorus drives the aborad propulsion of the contents at the intestinal end, and at the gastric end the flow is driven along the orad direction. While no transfer of contents occur at the centre of pylorus due to zero pressure gradients, it is essential to have a non-zero pressure difference to drive the flow through the channel. The extent of pressure difference is found to linearly relate to the transpyloric flow rate. The resistive function of the pyloric channel is observed at a higher occlusion where there is a development of higher pressure barrier that is sensitive to the flow behavior index, frequency, occlusion, and contraction length.

BACKGROUND: We previously reported the development of pancreatic acinar cell metaplasia (PACM) in the glandular stomach of a duodenal contents reflux model (reflux model). AIMS: We aimed to investigate the characteristics and histogenesis of PACM using a reflux model. METHODS: A reflux model was created using 8-week-old male Wistar rats, which were killed up to 30 weeks postoperatively. Histological examination was performed to analyze the glandular stomach-jejunal anastomosis. Furthermore, electron microscopic images of PACM samples were compared with pancreatic and gastric glands removed from rats that had not undergone surgery. Immunostaining for α-amylase, HIK1083, TFF2, and Ki-67 was performed, and double fluorescent staining was carried out using antibodies against α-amylase and HIK1083, or α-amylase and TFF2. RESULTS: In all reflux model rats, PACM was observed proximal to the glandular stomach-jejunal anastomosis, surrounded by pseudopyloric metaplasia. The number of chief cells was decreased in the deep part of the gland, where PACM occurred. Electron microscopy showed that PACM cells had greater numbers of rough endoplasmic reticulum tubules than chief cells, and exhibited pancreatic acinar cell morphology. Upon immunochemical staining, the regenerative foveolar epithelium and part of the pseudopyloric glands stained strongly positive for TFF2, whereas PACM cells were only weakly positive. Double fluorescent staining identified early lesions of PACM in the neck, which were double positive for α-amylase and TFF2, but negative for HIK1083. CONCLUSIONS: PACM could be induced by duodenal contents reflux. PACM originates from stem cells located in the neck of oxyntic glands during gastric mucosal regeneration.

PURPOSE: To investigate the role of omeprazole and nitrites on the gastric mucosa of rats submitted to specific techniques to induce duodenogastric reflux. METHODS: One hundred and twenty Wistar rats were divided into three groups: Group I (n=40) -gastrotomy; Group II (n=40) - duodenogastric reflux after gastrojejunoanastomosis latero-lateral (DGR); Group III (n=40) - retrograde duodenogastric reflux through the pylorus (DGR-P). The groups were divided into 4 subgroups of 10 animals, respectively treated for 16 weeks with water, omeprazole 1.6 mg / rat / day, nitrite 600 mg / kg / day and omeprazole plus nitrite simultaneously. RESULTS: The proliferative lesions found were: squamous hyperplasia - 69.1%, adenomatous hyperplasia in the anastomosis - 29.1% and prepyloric adenomatous hyperplasia - 42.5%. Adenocarcinomas were registered in 7 animals (5.8%): one in Group I (omeprazole plus nitrite), two in Group II (omeprazole and nitrite plus omeprazole) and four in Group III (water, nitrite, omeprazole and omeprazole plus nitrite). CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of squamous hyperplasia, adenomatous hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma increased after gastrojejunal anastomoses, which cause duodenogastric reflux. The association of omeprazole did not protect the development of proliferative lesions and cancer induced by duodenogastric reflux in rats.

AIMS: Rat models of duodenogastric reflux have been used to study gastric stump cancer (GSC), but the underlying molecular mechanisms are poorly understood. Unlike rats, mice can be genetically modified, providing a superior model for studying the molecular mechanisms underlying GSC development, which is associated with duodenogastric reflux. This study aimed at developing a mouse model of duodenogastric reflux. MAIN METHOD: C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to the control (n = 6), sham operation (n = 9), or gastrojejunostomy group (n = 12). Mice were sacrificed at 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery. Stomach tissue was stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Lesions were classified as chronic inflammation, intestinal metaplasia, or atypical hyperplasia. KEY FINDINGS: Nine mice underwent gastrojejunostomy without mortality. The animals in the gastrojejunostomy group exhibited chronic inflammation at 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery, showing intestinal metaplasia (n = 2) and atypical hyperplasia (n = 1) at 3 months and intestinal metaplasia (n = 2) and atypical hyperplasia (n = 2) at 6 months. The mice in the control group did not exhibit chronic inflammation or intestinal metaplasia, whereas those in the sham operation group exhibited chronic inflammation at 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery, without intestinal metaplasia or atypical hyperplasia. Intestinal metaplasia or atypical hyperplasia were more common in the gastrojejunostomy group than in the sham operation group (p = 0.012). SIGNIFICANCE: A duodenogastric reflux mouse model can be created using gastrojejunostomy without gastrectomy.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of stomach and duodenal fluid on enamel surfaces, simulating the action of refluxed liquid in patients with duodenogastric reflux. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Forty bovine incisors were used to obtain enamel fragments. Only half of the enamel surface was exposed to erosive challenges; the samples were then randomly divided into the following four groups (n = 10): G1: HCl; G2: HCl + pepsin; G3: HCl + ox bile + NaHCO3; and G4: HCl + pancreatin + NaHCO3. The specimens were placed in 37°C solutions, six times per day, for 20 s, over a period of 5 days and then analysed for morphology, surface roughness and the step formed on the dental enamel using confocal laser microscopy. The data were analysed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn's test (p <0.05). RESULTS: Both analyses revealed a higher step and surface roughness for the G3 group (5.6 µm ± 1.69, 2.2 µm ± 1.61), which were statistically significant compared with the G1 and G2 groups (3.9 µm ± 1.5 µm; 1.0 µm ± 0.18; 3.7 µm ± 1.45; and 0.9 µm ± 0.12) (p <0.05); only the step in the G4 group (4.9 µm ± 1.8 µm) was similar to that of the G3 group (p >0.05). Morphological analysis showed greater structural loss in the G3 and G4 groups. CONCLUSIONS: Bile and pancreatin, in combination with hydrochloric acid, may promote a greater loss of structure, increased surface roughness and loss of enamel prismatic anatomy.

BACKGROUND: The presence of Barrett's mucosa in the esophageal remnant is a result of post-esophagectomy anastomotic site exposure to gastric acid and is regarded as a human model of Barrett's esophagus onset. Here, we attempted to clarify the relationship between duodenogastric reflux and formation of columnar epithelium by following the changes over time after esophagectomy. METHODS: A total of 96 patients underwent esophagectomy due to superficial cancer from April 2000 to March 2018 were included in this study. Cases were divided into two groups according to the reconstruction technique after esophagectomy as either the gastric pull-up (Ga) group and ileocolonic interposition (Ic) group. Previously obtained endoscopic pictures of the cases were reviewed retrospectively and chronologically. RESULTS: There were 24 cases of columnar epithelium in the Ga group (42%) and 1 in the Ic group (2.6%) (P < 0.01) with 32 reflux cases (56%) in the Ga group and 1 (2.6%) in the Ic group (P < 0.01). Reflux precedes the development of columnar epithelium in both the Ga- and Ic groups. Multivariate analysis revealed surgical technique (odds ratio 10.6, 95% CI 1.2-97.5, P = 0.037) and reflux (odds ratio 4.5, 95% CI 1.3-15.6, P = 0.0017) as risk factors. CONCLUSIONS: The development of columnar epithelium was preceded by reflux comprising principally gastric acid and was strongly associated with a strong inflammatory state.

RESUMEN El síndrome de Pinza Aortomesentérica o "Síndrome de Wilkie" es una entidad muy rara, se caracteriza por una pérdida de peso impor-tante y vómitos de alimentos parcialmente digeridos. La sospecha diagnóstica se fundamenta por la presencia de factores predisponen-tes y/o de riesgo. Estudios imagenológicos como un esofagogastroduodeno seriado y ecografía Doppler permiten su confirmación. El tratamiento primario se apoya en una adecuada nutrición. Frente al fracaso del tratamiento médico, se indica el manejo quirúrgico con diferentes técnicas para resolver la oclusión. Se presenta el caso de una adolescente con oclusión gastroduodenal crónica, fallo en el tratamiento médico y resolución quirúrgica con buenos resultados.Palabras claves: Síndrome de la arteria mesentérica superior, obstrucción duodenal, reflujo duodenogástrico, laparotomía, anastomosis quirúrgica; gastroparesia.


ABSTRACT Superior mesenteric artery syndrome or "Wilkie syndrome" is a very rare entity, characterized by significant weight loss and vomiting of partially digested food. The diagnostic suspicion is based on the presence of predisposing and/or risk factors. Imaging studies such as serial esophagogastroduodenum and Doppler ultrasound allow its confirmation. The primary treatment is supported by adequate nutrition. Following the failure of medical treatment, surgical management is indicated with different techniques to resolve the occlusion. We present the case of a teenager with chronic gastroduodenal occlusion, failure in medical treatment and surgical resolution with good results.Keywords: Superior mesenteric artery syndrome; duodenal obstruction; duodenogastric reflux; laparotomy; anastomosis, surgical; gas-troparesis

Abstract Purpose: To investigate the role of omeprazole and nitrites on the gastric mucosa of rats submitted to specific techniques to induce duodenogastric reflux. Methods: One hundred and twenty Wistar rats were divided into three groups: Group I (n=40) -gastrotomy; Group II (n=40) - duodenogastric reflux after gastrojejunoanastomosis latero-lateral (DGR); Group III (n=40) - retrograde duodenogastric reflux through the pylorus (DGR-P). The groups were divided into 4 subgroups of 10 animals, respectively treated for 16 weeks with water, omeprazole 1.6 mg / rat / day, nitrite 600 mg / kg / day and omeprazole plus nitrite simultaneously. Results: The proliferative lesions found were: squamous hyperplasia - 69.1%, adenomatous hyperplasia in the anastomosis - 29.1% and prepyloric adenomatous hyperplasia - 42.5%. Adenocarcinomas were registered in 7 animals (5.8%): one in Group I (omeprazole plus nitrite), two in Group II (omeprazole and nitrite plus omeprazole) and four in Group III (water, nitrite, omeprazole and omeprazole plus nitrite). Conclusions: The occurrence of squamous hyperplasia, adenomatous hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma increased after gastrojejunal anastomoses, which cause duodenogastric reflux. The association of omeprazole did not protect the development of proliferative lesions and cancer induced by duodenogastric reflux in rats.

Justificativa: A Doença do Refluxo Gastroesofágico (DRGE) apresenta alta prevalência na população mundial. Uma de suas complicações, é o esôfago de Barrett (EB), uma alteração histológica pré-maligna do epitélio esofágico. O seu diagnóstico se da através do exame endoscópico e posterior confirmação histopatológica. Objetivo: Estimar a concordância diagnóstica, nos casos suspeitos de EB, entre o exame endoscópico e a análise histológica. Métodos: Foram analisados 151 pacientes, retrospectivamente, com suspeita diagnóstica de EB na endoscopia. Os dados foram obtidos a partir de prontuários eletrônicos, entre Julho de 2013 e Julho de 2014. Os laudos anatomopatológicos foram obtidos através de registros do laboratório Byori. Resultados: Entre os 151 pacientes submetidos a biópsias com suspeita endoscópica de EB, 47 (31,1%) obtiveram confirmação diagnóstica através do exame anatomopatológico. Conclusão: A endoscopia digestiva alta é um bom exame para detecção de metaplasia colunar, entretanto, nos casos de esôfago de Barrett, essa eficácia não se reproduziu.


Background: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) has a high prevalence in the world population. One of its complications is Barrett's esophagus (EB), a premalignant histological alteration of the esophageal epithelium. Its diagnosis is given through endoscopic examination and subsequent histopathological confirmation. Objective: Estimate at diagnostic agreement, we have suspense cases of EB, between endoscopic examination and histological analysis. Method: A total of 151 patients were retrospectively with suspected diagnosis of EB at endoscopy. Data were obtained from electronic medical records between July 2013 and July 2014. Anatomopathological reports were obtained from Byori laboratory records. Results: Among the 151 patients who underwent biopsy with endoscopic suspicion of EB, 47 (31.1%) obtained diagnostic confirmation through pathological examination. Conclusion: Upper digestive endoscopy is a good exam to detect columnar metaplasia, however, in Barrett's esophagus cases, this efficacy has not been reproduced.

Background and Objectives: Although there are many studies that investigate the relationship between duodenogastric reflux (DGR) and Helicobacter pylori in adult patients, the reported data are contradictory. In addition, there are very few studies in the literature investigating the relationship between DGR and H.pylori in the pediatric age group. In the present study, we investigated the effect of primary DGR on H.pylori and gastritis. Materials and Methods: A total of 361 patients who were referred to the clinic of our hospital with dyspeptic complaints who had an upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy and a gastric biopsy were included in the study. Results: DGR was detected in 45 cases, and 316 cases that did not have DGR were considered as the control group. Comparisons were made between the DGR cases and the control group in terms of risk factors (age, gender), the presence and density of H.pylori, and the presence and severity of gastritis. The average age of the patients who were included in the study was 11.6 ± 4.6 years. A total of 128 (36%) of the cases were male and 233 (64%) were female. DGR was present in 45 (13%) of the cases. The average age of the patients with DGR was 13.9 ± 3.1 years, the average age of the control group was 11.3 ± 4.7, and there were statistically significant differences (p < 0.001). No significant differences were detected in terms of gender between DGR and the control group (p > 0.05). H.pylori (+) was detected in 29 (64%) of patients with DGR, and in 202 (64%) of the control group. No significant differences were detected between H.pylori prevalence (p = 0.947). Gastritis was detected in 37 (82%) of the patients with DGR, and in 245 (77%) of the control group (p = 0.476). No significant differences were detected between the presence and density of H.pylori, gastritis presence, severity and DGR (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The ages of patients with DGR were significantly higher than in the control group, and advanced age was shown to be a risk factor for primary DGR. It was found that the presence of DGR has no effect on the presence and severity of H.pylori. Given this situation, we consider it is important to eradicate H.pylori infection, especially in the case where H.pylori is present together with DGR.
